Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget: Vanderbilt

Continuing a new blog feature to our site, here is today’s Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget. For each game during the regular season (and hopefully postseason), I will try to post something that most fans would not know. Some will be more complex than others, but hopefully it will be something that if you are standing around the water cooler the next day would impress your friends.

So in honor of the first road game of the season, I give you two nuggets related to the No. 32 (as in games played):

R.J. Hunter, a Kyle Macy Freshman All-America honoree last season, opened the year with 27 points against Southern Poly. In 32 career games, Hunter has scored 20 points or more 13 times.

Redshirt-senior Manny Atkins put together a very special season last year, but a rebound here or there could had made it even more special. Atkins recorded three double-doubles during the season, however, he also missed a double-double six times by just one rebound and another four by two rebounds. He opened this season just missing a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

IF he had secured all of those double-doubles in his first 32 games with the Panthers, he would now have 14 double-doubles.

Check back Monday as the Panthers prepare to face McNeese State in the opening game of the NIT Season Tip-off in Tuscaloosa, Ala..
