Continuing a new blog feature to our site, here is today’s Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget. For each game during the regular season (and hopefully postseason), I will try to post something that most fans would not know. Some will be more complex than others, but hopefully it will be something that if you are standing around the water cooler the next day would impress your friends.
So as the Panthers prepare to face Alabama on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. with a trip to Madison Square Garden in New York, here is your nugget:
Playing in the NIT Season Tipoff marks the second time the Panthers will play in an NIT preseason event, however, this format is much different that the first. GSU played Utah in 2003, a 46-38 loss in Salt Lake City, but that was the lone game the Panthers played. Under the new format in the NIT Season Tip-off, Georgia State is guaranteed four games. GSU will play either Alabama on Tuesday night in Tuscaloosa. From there, with a win, Georgia State will advance to Madison Square Garden in New York. However, if Georgia State loses, the Panthers will play at one of three other regional sites on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Among those potential sites are Arizona, Duke, Rutgers, Elon, Drexel East Carolina and Rhode Island.
Make sure to check back next week as the Panthers continue play in the NIT Season Tip-off, hopefully from Madison Square Garden in New York.
