Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget: Troy

Sun Belt Conference play is officially here, so here is another edition of our Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget. For those just following us, each game during the regular season (and hopefully postseason), I will try to post something that most fans would not know. Some will be more complex than others, but hopefully it will be something that if you are standing around the water cooler the next day would impress your friends.

Georgia State will face Troy in its first Sun Belt game in more than 30 years. The two teams were rivals in the TAAC/Atlantic Sun and no doubt this rivalry will become fierce once again.

Since the Panthers will open at home, it is only appropriate that today’s nugget is related to the GSU Sports Arena.

Georgia State is 4-0 at home this season and is just one home win shy of tying for the seventh longest home winning streak in program history.  Under head coach Ron Hunter, the Panthers are 26-10 in the comfy confines in his two-plus seasons.

The longest home-court winning streak is 25 which came between 2000 and 2002 and when it came to an end, was the third longest in the nation.

Be sure to come back Saturday for another Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget as the Panthers take to the road for their first Sun Belt road game, facing South Alabama at 4 p.m. ET in Mobile, Ala.
