Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget: UL Monroe

The buzz continued to grow around the Georgia State men’s basketball team following an impressive 77-70 victory over UL Lafayette on Thursday, the Panthers 10th-straight win, just one shy of a school-record. The win-streak is tied with Florida for the 10th-longest in the nation and GSU has now won five-straight road games, just two shy of the school mark.

So where does that leave us; having a lot of options for a Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget. The Panthers traveled the snowy and icy roads of Louisiana on Friday (yes, you read that right, are we in the CAA again?) and will face UL Monroe on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. ET. For those just following us (and thank you for joining us), each game during the regular season (and hopefully postseason), I will try to post something that most fans would not know. Some will be more complex than others, but hopefully it will be something that if you are standing around the water cooler the next day would impress your friends.

So here is our latest Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget in honor of coach Hunter (he’s a great coach and deserves a nugget):

Head coach Ron Hunter’s 37 victories in his first two seasons were the most by a Panther coach in his first two years in program history. He  surpassed the total of Hall of Fame coach Charles “Lefty” Driesell who won 33 games in his first two seasons. Driesell won 50 games in his first three seasons and with 13 wins so far this season, Hunter has tied him at 50 already. One more win and he will have the most of any GSU coach in his first three-seasons.

Be sure to come back Thursday for another Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget as the Panthers return home and face South Alabama in the Sports Arena at 7 p.m.
