Inside Marketing: Celebrating Women’s Basketball

On the first Monday of every month (a day late this week), a member of the Georgia State Marketing staff will give InsideGSUSports a look at what is going on in their department. Over the course of every month, each department will be featured at least once. Coming on Wednesday: Panther Athletic Club.

When the Georgia State women’s basketball team takes the court against Arkansas State on Feb. 8th at 2 p.m., you will see the home team sporting a new color. We will be having our “Play 4 Kay” breast cancer awareness game. We will have pink spirit shakers at the entrance and we will be accepting donations for our pink “Panthers For A Cure” T-shirts and Bracelets.

Zeta Tau Alpha will also be there passing out pink ribbons to all of the fans. During the game we will be recognizing breast cancer survivors from the Atlanta community. All survivors will receive one free ticket for them and a guest. If you are a survivor, or know a survivor who would like to be recognized at the game please contact the marketing office at 404-413-4179 or by email at All Proceeds will go to benefit the Kay Yow Foundation. If you are not able to make it on Saturday and would like to donate you can do that by clicking Here.

Athletics will also be having a Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day on Saturday. Faculty/Staff will receive a free ticket and can purchase additional tickets at half price ($3). We will also be recognizing two Georgia state faculty members, Dr. Charlie Benson and Dr. Susanna Greer for their breast cancer research.

We are also excited to announce that we have formed a marketing relationship with the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA that will benefit our women’s basketball program. The marketing partnership, which launched on Jan. 1, will allow us to team up with the Dream to help grow women’s basketball in the Atlanta market. All Saturday home games will be deemed “Dream Saturdays” and all promotional winners throughout those games will receive a Dream prize pack that includes free tickets. The partnership will also allow us to have presence at select home games throughout their season. This is a unique partnership and we are excited about building off of it in the future.

It’s an exciting time to be following GSU basketball! Both teams continue to make a push towards March Madness and the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. We hope to see you at the Sports Arena soon.
