The Panthers are in the final stretch run and can clinch the Sun Belt regular season title on Thursday night against UT Arlington. GSU has won 17 of its last 18 games, the best stretch in program history. How has it happened? A ton of great offense and a defense that has continued to improve all season.
Although I have been trying to dig deeper for the Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget, I wanted to give one today that I am just impressed by and all of these numbers relate to a sophomore-sensation.
R.J. Hunter is showing that he is one of the best 3-point shooters in the country. He currently ranks 10th with 89 3-pointers in the NCAA and is 11th with 3.30 per game. He is also 10th in the nation with 216 3-point attempts.
His 89 3-pointers this year are third in program history and he is just five shy of tying the single-season mark. Hunter currently has made 162 3-pointers in his career, which ranks sixth on the all-time list and he could easily be in the top-three by the end of the year. Let me repeat something from earlier, he is a sophomore. Those numbers are just ridiculous!
Be sure to come back Saturday for another Men’s Basketball Gameday Nugget as the Panthers continue their road trip at Texas State at 5:30 p.m.
