Throughout the summer, InsideGSUSports will provide updates on current and former Panther golfers. This week, we take a look at the women’s squad as the men prepare for the NCAA Championship.
A week after a handful of Georgia State men’s golfers attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open, three women’s golfers, including two recent graduates will take their shot on Monday at Dunwoody Country Club in Dunwoody, Ga.
Rising senior Lauren Court will be joined by recent graduates Maria Palacios and Laura Sanchez in the 36-hole qualifier. A field of 78 players will be vying for one of three spots and two alternate positions into the U.S. Open which will be hosted June 19-22 at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C., just one week after the men’s championship.
All three players will go off the first tee. Court is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., followed by Palacios at 9 a.m. and then Sanchez at 9:10 a.m.
In other Georgia State women’s golf news, former Panther Joanna Klatten finished tied for second at the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic held by the Symetra Tour, May 8-11, in Greenwood, South Carolina. Klatten shot rounds of 71-67-76-71 at The Links at Stoney Point. It was her first event on the tour this year and moved her into 13th on the money list with just over $14,000.
