Summer Golf in Full Swing

The collegiate golf season will officially come to an end on Wednesday afternoon as Alabama faces Oklahoma State for the national championship live on The Golf Channel. Fans should take a peak, not necessarily to watch those two teams, but to see the course that Georgia State just finished up its season at. It is truly remarkable and as the coverage of collegiate golf grows, hopefully we will see more televised events like it.

While we were in Hutchinson, Kan., it was announced that both the men’s and women’s national championship will be televised in 2015 at Concession Golf Club in Tampa. The game is growing and so are the Georgia State programs.

Now that the seasons are over, make sure to follow InsideGSUSports every week as we give you updates on how our current, past and soon-to-be Panthers are playing this summer.

On the women’s side, Lauren Court and Melissa Siviter will both be playing in the GSGA Women’s Match Play. The event begins on Thursday and runs through Saturday at Canongate-on-White Oak in Newnan. The low 16 players from the 18-hole stroke play qualifying will advance to match play to determine the champion. Court will have recent Panther grad Ross Mclister caddying for her, while Siviter will have recent grad Maria Palacios on her bag.

When not playing this summer, Siviter will be working at White Columns Country Club helping out with summer camps and golf leagues.

Court will be working summer camps at Steel Canyon Golf Club as she prepares for her senior season.

Overseas, Solene Le Coz has begun a full summer schedule. She recently made the cut and finished 23rd at the Illouz Cup, shooting 84-77-82 after just returning from Atlanta.

This past weekend, she finished second, falling in a playoff, at the Grand Prix of Saint Germain Les Corbeils, shooting 70-81.

Next Sunday she will head to the Academic French Championship. It is an event for students who are still studying and play golf. It will take place in the south east part of France.

The men will also start playing in some more events after taking a little bit of a break from a long season.

Next week, Damon Stephenson and Nathan Mallonee will be playing in the Southwestern Amateur in Scottsdale, Ariz. The event is scheduled for June 4-7 on the Nicklaus Signature Cochise Course at the Desert Mountain Club.

Remember to check back next week to see how these golfers did and what is on the horizon as the summer gets underway.
