Summer golf is officially underway. Here is the latest InsideGSUSports Golf Update for the week of June 2nd.
On the women’s side:
Lauren Court and Melissa Siviter qualified for the GSGA Women’s Match Play Championship last week. Court shot 76 while Siviter shot 77 in the opening round of play which advanced them to the match play portion of the tournament. Unfortunately, both lost close matches in the Round of 16.
Solene Le Coz is playing in The Academic French Championship in Albon, France this week.
On the men’s side:
Damon Stephenson and Nathan Mallonee will be playing in the Southwestern Amateur in Scottsdale, Ariz., this week. The event is scheduled for June 4-7 on the Nicklaus Signature Cochise Course at the Desert Mountain Club.
Recent transfer Gus Wagoner shot 76-79 at Ansley – Settindown on Monday in Sectional Qualifying for the U.S. Open. Wagoner reached the second stage by shooting a 71 at The Legends at Chateau Elan last month. The course played tough as always with only two players in the field breaking par. Both earned spots in next week’s U.S. Open.
Coming up next week, Davin White will fly to Pennsylvania for the prestigious Sunnehanna Amateur. The event in Johnstown annually features the best amateurs in the country.
On the pro side:
Joel Sjoholm finished 60th at the Czech Challenge on the European Challenge Tour. His highlight of the tournament was a second round 68.
Steven Tiley also played in the Czech Challenge, unfortunately missing the cut. However, just the week before he finished 11th at the Karnten Golf Open, shooting 72-65-64-69. He is currently 34th on the European Challenge Tour money list. The top-20 at the end of the year earn their cards to the European PGA Tour.
Mark Haastrup also played in the Karnten Golf Open, finishing 64th. His highlight of the tournament was a second round 67.
Joanna Klatten tied for 13th at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey. She is currently 84th on the money list this season and will play in the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in Canada this week.
