Summer Golf Update – June 10th Edition

It was a little quiet over the last week for members of the Georgia State golf teams as they play summer events, but several of our former players playing professionally had a nice week. Here is the latest InsideGSUSports Golf Update for the week of June 9th.

On the women’s side:

Only Solene Le Coz was in action last week, finishing tied for fifth at the Academic French Championship in Albon, France. In very difficult conditions, Le Coz shot 82-84-80. She will be back in action June 13-15 at the Cachard Cup.

On the men’s side:

Damon Stephenson and Nathan Mallonee played in the Southwestern Amateur in Scottsdale, Ariz., on the Nicklaus Signature Cochise Course at the Desert Mountain Club.

Unfortunately neither made the cut after 36 holes. Stephenson shot 75-73 and Mallonee shot 74-80.

Davin White is in Pennsylvania this week for the prestigious Sunnehanna Amateur. The event in Johnstown annually features the best amateurs in the country.

Several Panthers will be back in action next week at the Greystone Cup in Birmingham. We will have a complete list of names in next week’s update.

On the pro side:

Joel Sjoholm finished tied for fifth at the Fred Olsen Challenge de Espana, his best finish of the season on the European Challenge Tour. Sjoholm led after 36 holes following rounds of 67 and 62. He finished the tournament with rounds of 72 and 68. He is now ranked No. 44 on the European Challenge Tour Money List.

Steven Tiley also played in the Fred Olsen Challenge de Espana, finishing tied for 46th at 4-under par. Tiley shot 69-69-72-70 and is currently ranked No. 32 on the money list.

Joanna Klatten tied for 24th at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in Canada. After three straight rounds of 70, Klatten finished with a final round 65 to jump 26 spots on the leaderboard. She is currently ranked No. 78 on the LPGA Tour Money List.

Remember to check back next week to see how these golfers did and what is on the horizon as the summer continues.
