Getting Ready for the Peachtree Road Race?

We are quickly approaching the 1-year anniversary of the launch of the InsideGSUSports blog. It has been a great success and it started with the Peachtree Road Race last July.

The world’s largest 10k and its 60,000 runners will once again take to Peachtree Street on July 4. With its Georgia State roots, we figured it was time to once again call on Panther Nation and the #PantherFamily.

If you are a GSU alum and will once again be running, we want to hear from you. After the race, we will put together a blog with everyone’s times, but before the race, we want to know your story.

Over the next three weeks, we will publish your stories on the InsideGSUSports blog as to why you run the Peachtree. Maybe you ran your first while a student at GSU and still run years later. Maybe you run in honor of a family member. Whatever your story is, we would love to hear it. If you just want to be included on our list of Peachtree runners that is fine as well. At the end of the day, we just want to hear from you.

As an added bonus, if you would like to train for the Peachtree or run the Peachtree in a GSU t-shirt, we have your back. Send your information to Associate Sports Information Director Mike Holmes (rholmes@gsu.edu) along with your t-shirt size and address and we will get a shirt in the mail. Our only request is that you send us a photo of you in your shirt at some point on race day so that we can include that in a blog post as well.

Finally, if you are not already, make sure to sign up to receive instant notifications when our blog is updated. It is simple to sign up and makes it easy to keep track of GSU Athletics. Just put in your email address in the box in the upper righthand corner of this page.

As you finish up your training for the race, good luck and Go Panthers!

– Mike Holmes

One Response to Getting Ready for the Peachtree Road Race?

It’s your friendly, neighborhood, basketball statistician here. In training for my 10th (and likely final) Peachtree Road Race. I thought I’d just do one to say I did, but it was fun, so I did it again. Last year would have been my 10th, but an unfortunate accident derailed that goal. Now, a year and an ankle with a plate and seven screws later, I’m pretty well rehabbed and focused to set the PR I was gunning for last year. For me that means breaking the modest 60-minute barrier (standing PR: 60:17). Unless you’re elite, most don’t participate in the Peachtree to run a good time, they do it to have a good time. So, I’ve stopped to listen to bands, give some high-fives to some in the crowd – especially those at the Shepherd Center who are unable to run – and yes, I’ve downed a brew or two over the years. But there is a way to maneuver the course and run a decent time if you want. I have plenty of GSU t-shirts for training, so save your postage, Mike. Just know that our D-tag times are public, I’m coming for you, and there’s nowhere for you to hide! Good luck, buddy!
