Another great week of Georgia State golf is in the books. With the holiday at the end of the week, it will be a little more quiet than normal, but should pick up again next week. Make sure to check in with the InsideGSUSports Golf Update every week to see how current and former members of the men and women’s golf team are doing.
On the men’s side:
Davin White continued his impressive play this summer with a seventh place finish at The Dogwood Invitational right up the street from GSU at Druid Hills Country Club. White shot 68-65-68-72 and was near the top of the leaderboard throughout the event. It marked the second year in a row that he had an impressive finish at The Dogwood after finishing fourth last summer.
Damon Stephenson also competed and finished tied for 32nd. After a tough opening round 75, Stephenson rebounded with a second-round 65 and then shot 72-70 on the weekend.
J.J. Grey finished tied for 27th at the Brabazon Trophy at Seaton Carew in England. The rising-junior shot 70-75-72-76 to finish at 1-over on the par-73 course.
On the women’s side:
Both Lauren Court and Melissa Siviter competed in the Georgia Women’s Top-60 at Rivermont Country Club in Johns Creek.
Siviter shot rounds of 75 and 77 to finish tied for 16th in an event that featured the top-60 amateur ladies in the state of Georgia. Court shot rounds of 76 and 81 to finish tied for 26th.
Across the pond, Solene Le Coz shot 75-80 to miss the cut by two strokes at the Cachard Cup in mid-June. She will be volunteering for the Alstom French Open on the European PGA Tour this week.
On the pro side:
Last week on the European Challenge Tour, Steven Tiley finished tied for 50th at the Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts. Tiley shot 72-67-73-69 over the weekend, unfortunately former Georgia State mates Joel Sjoholm and Mark Haastrup missed the cut.
Tiley is back in action on Tuesday, July 1, attempting to qualify for the British Open again. He will play a 36-hole qualifier at Hillside Country Club.
Clemens Dvorak will also be looking to qualify for The Open Championship. His qualifier is at Sunningdale.
Jonathan Fricke unfortunately missed on the cut at the Web.com’s United Leasing Championship following rounds of 77 and 74.
Tom Sherreard had another good week on the Alps Tour, finishing tied for 12th at the Alps de las Castillas. Sherreard shot rounds of 67-75-72. He is currently 15th on their Order of Merit with three straight finishes in the top-12. The top-five at the end of the year earn European Challenge Tour status.
Remember to check back next week to see how these golfers did and what is on the horizon as the summer continues.
