It’s Time to Run the Peachtree Road Race

Friday marks a tradition like none other in Atlanta – The Peachtree Road Race. Over the last few weeks, we have heard from so many Georgia State alums who will be running the race along with 60,000 of our friends. The 10k down Peachtree Street starts at Lenox Mall and ends in Piedmont Park, but it really is one big celebration the entire way. It is truly a special way to start the 4th of July and whether you are running for a personal best for just for fun, we still want to hear from you.

We want to post the times of all of the Georgia State alums running the race. More than a dozen of you have already sent in your names and once the race is over and results have been posted, we will search the database to look you up.

However, I know that there are more than that running on Friday (or volunteering, we would love to thank you as well). The race has a rich Georgia State tradition, considering its founder and many of those who helped start it attended and worked at GSU.

So it is not too late to send in your name to be among the GSU #PantherFamily. Send your information to Associate Sports Information Director Mike Holmes ( and then after the race, be sure to send us a photo of either running the race or with your prized t-shirt and we will include that on the blog as well.

From this runner to another, I hope your training went well and see you on Peachtree on Friday morning. I’ll be the guy in Group F wearing my lucky GSU visor and hoping to break the one-hour mark for the first time.

– Mike Holmes
