It was another quiet week on the amateur circuit for the Georgia State golf programs. Most of the student-athletes are taking some time off before reporting back to school in late August. Make sure to check in with the InsideGSUSports Golf Update every week to see how current and former members of the men and women’s golf team are doing.
On the men’s side:
Most of the student-athletes who competed last week were in the U.S. Amateur Qualifier early in the week and did not compete on the weekend (see last week’s update).
This week, Davin White, J.J. Grey and Nathan Mallonee are competing at the Choo Choo Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn. The first round was on Monday with the second round being played on Tuesday and the final round on Wednesday at Council Fire Golf Club.
On the women’s side:
Last week across the pond, Solene Le Coz finished seventh at the Grand Prix of Ozoir in France. The rising sophomore shot 77-80-76. She even got to hang out with former Panther Charlotte Guilleux who was competing as well (see photo).
On the pro side:
The good news for Panther fans was that Tom Sherreard tied for 27th at the Alps de Andalucia shooting 72-69-70. It was the last event on the Alps Tour until early September. He has been on a nice run and is ranked No. 14 on the Order of Merit. The top five at the end of the season earn European Challenge Tour status.
Last week on the European Challenge Tour, Steven Tiley, Joel Sjoholm and Mark Haastrup all missed the cut at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge in France.
Jonathan Fricke shot rounds of 76-72 to miss the cut at the Midwest Classic on the Web.com Tour.
Remember to check back next week to see how these golfers did and what is on the horizon as the summer continues.
