On the third Monday of every month, a member of the Sports Communications staff will give a behind-the-scenes look at what’s going on around its area and the department. Over the course of every month, each department will be featured at least once. Coming Wednesday: Operations.
Just over 18 months ago, we launched the InsideGSUSports blog to give our readers an inside look at Georgia State Athletics while adding another avenue to distribute news and information to our fans.
Looking back on 2014, it is impressive to see how much the blog has grown. In numbers alone, we nearly doubled our viewership from the first year, which included 26,498 pages read.
We worked hard to produce new content with several of those ideas coming from our readers, leading to 178 blog posts, nearly one every other day.
Our most popular blog, which should be of no surprise, was GS vs. GSU: One Letter Means a Lot. More than 4,000 of you read that post. It makes us think that there might be some kind of rivalry going on between Georgia Southern and Georgia State or that the letter U is kind of important (please note the sarcasm in that last line).
We also had readers from all over the world. Obviously, the United State was most popular, but it was also great to see significant numbers from (in order of popularity): Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France, Taiwan, Canada and Brazil. No doubt that the work done by the men’s basketball team in Costa Rica led to those numbers and hopefully it helped the children in the Central American country have a little more hope toward the future with a new pair of shoes.
Most of our readers found us via Facebook or Twitter which is really no surprise to us. Our fans have a great voice on both of those social mediums and we plan to continue to push content and ask for interaction via those and others in 2015.
What does this all mean? It means that we have great fans who hopefully enjoy what we are producing. We are always looking for new ways to expand on what we are already doing, while creating new avenues as well.
We hope that your 2015 is off to a great start and if you have any ideas for us, please don’t hesitate to post them in the comments section below. That is what this blog is truly for…interaction with our fans.
